Do you know the way….

I want to take you back to a time where we had to print out directions. We had to go type in addresses and put them in Mapquest. Although it does feel like long ago, it actually wasn’t. In 2013, I remember getting my first GPS and it was the best gift ever for me. I just knew I would never get lost again. It beat mapquest which I still used. This was before we pin our location or used our phones gps as much.

The thing I love about having directions, is that you feel confident that you can arrive at your desired destination. I think we all would love something like this in our walk with God. But it’s not as simple as that app in the phone that directs us to our Saturday night event.

When we navigate through life you may just want to turn off the gps, because your expected destination may be a pit stop on the way. You may not end there. I thought my life was going to be linear. Nursing school, Nurse Practitioner school and a clinic. It actually looked like nursing school, become a RN, start nurse practitioner school, drop out, write a book, leave nursing, start a business, start a ministry, fight the urge to go back (because entrepreneurship is hard😅), and just be obedient.

While diving into Proverbs 20:24 it got me together

“Man’s steps are ordered and ordained by the Lord. How then can a man [fully] understand his way?”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭20:24‬ ‭AMP‬‬

This verse showed me that once again, God is in control over the steps we take not us. If we go left, God will push us right. If we go right, it’s because He ordained it. Now, life is full of decisions and free will. But have you tried life outside of God’s will? I have and it wasn’t fun, it led me right back to the ordained steps. I believe God has set up space for my imperfections. He learned a lot from my ancestors for sure.

This verse also freed me from worrying so much about mistakes. Maybe your mistakes can be used to order your steps. Maybe you don’t have to be perfect or know all the answers. God has a plan, just for you and He just needs your Yes! During the last 2.5 months I want to challenge you to try something. It may sound small or weird, but I want you to go without the GPS. This means just do what God said without trying to make it fit into the puzzle you know as life.

We spend too much time worrying about if it makes sense to us, when Proverbs says how can we fully understand anyway. So let God do His thing and you do yours. I believe we will find peace and freedom by approaching it with this mindset. You don’t have to know all the details to obey God’s word. We just have to be postured to know what to do.

  • God is amazing me, something He does all the time. I just want you to know that I watched your videos and it has inspired me to take another leap of faith and share my story of being HIV positive on Youtube. It’s only a diagnosis, and for too long, I let it define me as a person. I know today, it’s not true. I wore all of the negative masks associated with this disease, the biggest one being fear. But to God be the glory, I know the truth of who I am as a child of God. It’s been 21 years since my diagnosis, and it’s time I stomp on the devil’s head, like you, and be a mouthpiece for those living with HIV who are going through this journey alone and afraid. Thank you for sharing the Bible study, “Do You Know the Way.” I don’t, but I sure know Who does. So I will get in the passenger seat, strap in, and let God do the driving and lead me on the path He has purposed for me.
